The Brownsburg West Middle School 8th Grade Softball team came out strong Tuesday evening but ultimately couldn’t hold off the Avon Middle School Orioles, falling 10–4 in a well-fought matchup. Brownsburg wasted no time getting on the board, striking first in the top of the first inning behind a pair of singles, including an RBI base hit from Kaylee Mock. After Avon tied things up in the bottom of the second, Penelope Athans reignited the Bulldogs’ offense in the third with a two-run over-the-fence homerun to right field, giving Brownsburg a 4–2 lead. Until Avon took the lead in the final innings. Vivian Birkla had seven strikeouts in three innings. Chloe Jones came in the final four innings as relief. Offensively, Brownsburg tallied nine hits on the night. Athans and Mock led the charge, each collecting two hits while hitting back-to-back in the lineup. Athans drove in three of the team’s four runs and finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
