The BWMS 8th Grade Baseball Team defeated the Shamrocks of Westfield on Thursday, 10-4. Westfield MS opened the scoring in the first, but the Dogs captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first when Andrew Tucker singled, scoring one run, Brady Wilburn crushed a ball to deep left, scoring one run, and Lucas Sumner doubled, scoring two runs. A timely 0-2 count single scoring two RBIs by Grayson Gee helped Brownsburg West 8th Grade extend their early lead in the third. Andrew Tucker earned the win for Brownsburg West while on the bump. The pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking three. Brady Wilburn appeared in relief for Brownsburg. Brownsburg West tallied 10 hits in the game. Sumner, hitting in the lucky 7 hole, led the way with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day and delivered a very motivational pregame speech. Owen Cozza, Wilburn, Tucker, and Sumner each collected two hits for Brownsburg. Pogue led Brownsburg with three walks and three stolen bases, showing that catchers are athletes. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game.
